About the EC 135 T2


This new state of the art purpose built aircraft is bigger and faster than the previously used model.  It is a light twin engine aircraft with aero-dynamic fuselage allowing for smoother flight making it the perfect aircraft for emergency medical missions.  This modern aircraft is also more cost effective as it's more fuel efficient and lower maintenance.

The interior is also purpose-designed and built for ambulance use, with loading capability for two stretchers from both sides and the rear of the aircraft according to the configuration used.

Other EC 135 features

  • Cruising speed at about 138 knots (150 mph).
  • Twin engine for safety.
  • Side and rear loading for stretchers.
  • High manoeuvrability and compact size means the helicopter can land almost anywhere
  • Skid under carriage enabling aircraft to land on a variety of ground conditions and slopes
  • Highly elevated tail and main rotors giving greater ground clearance for safety
  • Enclosed tail rotor
  • More than two hours flying time
  • Full range of high tech medical equipment to care for patients in flight
  • Low vibration levels give a smooth and comfortable ride
  • Can carry an additional passenger which means a parent or carer can accompany a sick or injured child

The Equipment

The air ambulance carries pretty much the same equipment as the land ambulance vehicles you see on the roads daily with the addition of the following:

  • Propaq 206 EL patient monitor
  • Lifepak defibrillator
  • SIMS Pneupac Ventipac resuscitator
  • Laerdal suction unit                   
  • Vacuum mattress
