- Collapses - i.e. medical cases, heart attacks, allergic

- Walking - i.e. falls while in difficult /remote

- Blackpool - Preston 7 mins
- Blackpool - Burnley 14 mins
How difficult is it to treat someone whilst
the helicopter is in the air?
- We only have a maximum of ten minutes (flying time
to nearest hospital, anywhere in the North West).
- We deal with the most serious casualties and we
are kept busy for the short journey.
What are some of the treatments the aircrew
do?
- Advanced life support
- CPR
- Defibrillation
- Intubation
- Administer life saving drugs
- Monitor patient signs and symptoms
Where are some of the strangest places the
helicopter has ever had to land?
- Canal banks
- Car parks including pubs, and factories
- Cliff edges
- Motorways
- Country roads
- River banks
What difference can the Air Ambulance make
to a patient?
- Rapid treatment from the paramedics.
- Rapid transfer to hospital
- Smooth journey i.e. spinal/ fractures
- Transfer to specialist units, negating secondary
transfer by land ambulance later
How many times does the air ambulance get called
out in a day?
- On average 3/4 jobs a day. In summer we have done
8/10 jobs in one weekend.
