North West Air Ambulance supporter Graham Flitcroft has experienced an extreme twelve months of fundraising. From running marathons to completing competitive swimming events he really has put in the miles to raise vital funds for the regions only dedicated helicopter emergency medical service.
Due to a family accident and the involvement of the North West Air Ambulance in the rescue, below Grahams sister explains why the charity is so close to their heart and how you can help support Graham in his further fundraising efforts;
On April 13th 2008 my cousin was involved in a really bad car accident on the Kendal - Sedbergh road in Cumbria. The three passengers in his car were all seriously injured but Codey was critically injured with a deep brain injury.
If it wasn't for the North West Air Ambulance risking their own lives (the weather and terrain were really bad and they were advised to abort the rescue) to save my cousin and get him to the Royal Preston Hospital then he would, without a shadow of doubt, not be here today. He suffered serious brain stem damage and was in a drug induced coma for a few weeks, he also had a broken leg and arm as well as other injuries. He has started to recover well both physically and mentally, but emotionally he is finding it harder.
To show our appreciation as a family towards the NWAA my brother Graeme Flitcroft has taken part in a number of sporting events to raise funds he has done the Edinburgh, Dublin and London full marathons, Carlisle and Leeds half marathons, London Triatholon and also the Great North Swim twice, he is also doing the Palma Marathon in Mallorca in October.
He has raised roughly £1500 so far. However to raise more vital funds we are holding a Black Tie Dinner Dance for North West Air Ambulance on 26th September this year at Stonecross Manor Hotel in Kendal, tickets are £30 per person and we are hoping that it will be a really good night. If people would like to either attend the dance or to sponsor Graeme they can do so my ringing Emma Hine on 07894072100 (for tickets ) or go to www.justgivingo.uk/graemeflitcroft2
