A group of women known as 'The Rambling Relic's have recently walked the full length of the Witton Weavers Way, a walk of over 32 miles, from the 14th - 18th April 2008, to raise funds for the North West Air Ambulance.
Those who took part were;-Jane Preston, Eileen Wiggans, Diane Hubbard, Anne Johnson, Barbara Johnston, Christine Nelson, Brenda Riley, Maureen Standing and Kerry Distefano.
The walk started and finished in Witton Country Park, Blackburn. Along the way the group explored Lancashire's history, passing weavers cottages, Tudor halls, Victorian estates, historic villages and even Roman Roads. The industrial, agricultural and religious history was complemented with surprisingly beautiful scenery.
The group also saw plenty of local wildlife including, lapwings, buzzards and kestrels soaring over the West Pennine Moors, explored beautiful woodlands, remote reservoirs, hidden valleys and enjoyed spectacular views from Jubilee Tower - even seeing deer in the plantation.
It was a walk of real contrast and surprise, as Radio Lancashire tracked the group all the way linking up 'live' every day on the John Gillmore show.
