NWAA has first NYC marathon runner

James Gwynne takes part in the NYC marathon to raise funds for the North West Air AmbulanceThe 2nd November 2008 saw the North West Air Ambulance represented in the ING New York City Marathon for the first time in our history.

Twenty eight year old James Gwynne from Southport took part in the gruelling 26.2 mile race through five boroughs of the infamous American metropolis.

He finished the race in just under 4 hours and although not quite competing with fellow British athlete Paula Radcliffe (who won the women’s event), he still described the experience as ‘unforgettable’.  We would like to take this opportunity to thank James for his monumental achievement in completing the race and raising £1000 in sponsorship, every penny of which will help save peoples lives throughout the North West!

We are in the process of putting together our 2009 marathon packages and if you are interested in taking part please visit our marathon microsite

The New York event is one of the worlds most spectacular road races and runners are cheered by over 2 million spectators.  The course takes runners through all five boroughs of New York City and gives you an opportunity to see the city like never before.
