Wesham resident Simon Nicholl is by his own admission a fair-weather cyclist, but this September he will be donning lycra and cycling from Lands End to John O’Groats, covering a distance of 1000 miles in twelve days!
“I want to try and raise funds for two charities, one local, which is the North West Air Ambulance and one national which is Help For Heroes.”
Simon, 40, is an air traffic controller at BAE Systems at Warton and through his job he knows how much ground the North West Air Ambulance covers.
“The helimed crews are always busy responding to incidents like road traffic accidents where time is critical in saving life. It’s hard to believe that the North West Air Ambulance operation relies entirely on public donations.”
www.justgiving.com/simonnichollnwaa is the web address to donate to the North West Air Ambulance.
Simon admits he is not looking forward to the hilly sections of the ride-particularly Dartmoor-or some of the longer stages! He will be covering all the costs of the ride himself so all donations go directly to the charities.
“My colleagues at BAE Systems have been generous with their donations and I really hope that other folk can perhaps spare the price of a pint or two-it really will make a difference. If we reach the £1500 mark with either charity then I will give £500 to that cause as an incentive.”
Simon hopes that you can sponsor him at www.justgiving.com/simonnichollnwaa for the North West Air Ambulance using a debit or credit card. If you are a UK taxpayer then these two worthy charities will automatically receive an extra 28% through Gift Aid!
