Festive Lights Shine for NWAA
On the evening of the Chatburn Christmas lights switch on members of the Chatburn Youth Forum grabbed their buckets and encouraged locals to donate their loose change to the NWAA, their efforts generated the fantastic sum of £250. Well done and thank you!

Christmas Goodwill in Tottington
NWAA are very grateful to the PCC and members of the congregation at the Parish Church of St Anne in Tottington for kindly choosing their NWAA as the beneficiary of the grand Christmas draw.
The draw was held over a six week period prior to Christmas and consisted of eighteen fantastic quality prizes donated by many local businesses and parishioners.
The draw raised a fantastic total of £468!

Quilt raises £580
Gill Young kindly donated one of her prize winning quilts to be raffled and raised £580 for the NWAA. The lucky winner of the raffle is Julie Mathis from Winsford, pictured above with her lovely prize.
111 Wainwrights for 1 great charity!
Sargeant Davies and members of the Territorial Army chose the NWAA to benefit from £475 sponsorship they received to conquer 111 of the Wainwright summits in the Lake District - our thanks are extended to everyone who participated in the challenge and were unable to join us for the cheque presentation at the City of Manchester airport.
Ooo' ver! Vincent will fix it!
If you are local to Barrowford, you may know Vincent Landon pictured above with his wife Marjorie and our crew. Vincent regulary repairs vacuum cleaners and has chosen to donate the nominal fee he charges to the North West Air Ambulance, which as Mr Landon comments is "a vital service here to fix anyone who needs help" To date Vincent has raised an ooo'verwhelming £505!
Generosity of Mytton Fold Golfers
John Berry chose the North West Air Ambulance charity as his chosen charity during his year as Captain at Mytton Fold Golf Club. During 2011 John and his fellow golfers (with special thanks to Lynnette) have raised just under £6000 by organising a sponsored golf marathon, a golf day in conjunction with Clitheroe Rotary Club, asking for members to donate unwanted clothing for our charity shops and selling our merchandise.
Cogheads Motorcycle Club catch up with the crew
Cogheads MCC of Accrington recently held their inaugral charity rock night in aid of NWAA. Eager to find out how their donation of £270.75 will make a difference, the group organised a Sunday meet and bike run to visit the crew at Barton aerodrome.
Greggs are great!
Staff at Greggs in Rawtenstall are proud to have raised more money for charitable causes during their '2011 Greggs Charitable Foundation Week' than any other shop in the North West region. Their fundraising activities include; name the bear, holding raffles, guess how many sweets in a jar and much more. This year staff have chosen the NW Air Ambulance as one of their beneficiairies and kindly donated £200.

Accrington & District Riding Club award red rosette to NWAA
Regional fundraiser and horse rider Alison Whittaker-Stewart was delighted to accept a cheque from the Accrington and District Riding Club at their annual presentation evening. In addition to their entry fees, all competitors donate £1.50 to pay for first aid cover at the shows. This year, the excess funds of £500 were donated to us.

Friends of Declan raise over £2000!
Friends and family of the late teenager Declan Eastwood from Haslingden chose to fundraise for us in his memory. Over eighteen people chose to shave their heads and sport a decorative 'Declan style design'! Following collecting sponsorship to cut their hair off the group raised further monies by undertaking a charity pub crawl around Haslingden. In total £2053.26 was collected and presented to fundraiser Alison Whittaker-Stewart.
Fundraising Tally Ho Pony Clubbers!
Our Manchester based air ambulance recently attended an incident at Carrington Riding Centre. Fortunately the injuries sustained by the teenager who had fallen off the horse she was riding were not as serious as first anticipated.
We are very grateful to the Pony Club for choosing us as one of the charities to benefit from their 'Bob a Job' week and charity evening to acheive their fundraising badge.
Pendle Pendleside Tractor Rally raises £1000 for NWAA
Each year family and farming friends of the late Andrew Nutter hold a befitting fundraising event in his memory - a charity tractor rally starting from his home village of Sabden Fold and ending in Barrowford, Lancs.
This year's event raised £3000, which was shared between the Chemotherapy Unit at Royal Blackburn Hospital, where he received treatment and the North West Air Ambulance, a charity he greatly admired.
MT Heads MCC meet our crew
The MT Heads motorcycle group chose to donate the proceeds of their summer Rock Night to the NWAA.
Dozens of bikers and their families visited our Air Ambulance at Barton Aerodrome to find out more about the work we do and kindly presented us with a cheque for £300.
Bikers sell their leathers for us!
Motorcycle friends from across the Pennines recetly de-cluttered their wardrobes and donated their bike leathers and equipment to raise funds in memory of the late Brian Crabtree. Brian and his wife Susan (presenting the cheque) regulary attended bike meets across Lancashire and Yorkshire.
With thanks to all the bikers who donated their unwanted gear, the event raised over £4000, which was donated to both the North West and Yorkshire Air Ambulance Charities.
Ex Servicemen visit Barton Aerodrome
It was a real pleasure to meet Ex Servicemen of Tameside who kindly chose us as one of their chosen charities. The group spared their time to visit our air ambulance and crew at Barton Aerodrome where they presented us with a cheque of £300.

Regional Fundraiser Sue Powell (pictured in the yellow sash) was delighted that the ladies group at Frodsham Methodist Church kindly chose the NWAA as the beneficiary of their summer fayre which raised £800. Thank you.

Residents living at Boundary Close and Churchside sheltered housing scheme in New Longton have raised a staggering £400 for us by holding bingo suppers, a weekly bonus ball draw and raffle
Sainsbury shoppers support our choppers!
Shoppers at Sainsbury's in Clitheroe realise how vital our service is and have kindly chosen to raise much needed funds for us over the next 12 months. The launch of our partnership commenced with a bag pack and cake stall which raised £734.87 and since staff member Lynn has undertaken a sponsored silence generating over £1000 (she must talk a lot, ha ha!) and Heather has jumped out of a plane at 14,000 feet for us raising £400!

'Go Yellow' Day with Croney
Thomas Hamer, aged 12, who attends Alder Grange High School in Rossendale has bravely undertaken a English Channel relay swim for us and so far has raised over £4800. Granada Tonight reporter Paul Crone delivered a memorable school assembly about the air ambulance and friends supported Thomas's fundraising by each donating £1 to wear yellow for the day, collectively raising £428.
Boundary Mill staff vote NWAA
We are very proud that staff at Boundary Mill in Colne chose us as their Charity of the Year for 2011. To celebrate our partnership we arranged for one of our helicopters to make a special visit to the store so our supporters could meet the crew and have a look inside the air ambulance. To date, the store have raised an overwhelming £25,000!
NWAA would also like to thank local Rotarians who helped marshall the helicopter landing area on the day
Local vets help to provide 'Care in the Air'
Lambert, Leonard & May Vets organised a ceilidh, hog roast and charity auction at Gisburn Auction Mart which attracted over 300 people and raised a staggering £7808!

amongst the Tree Tops!!!
A big thank you to Go Ape is a tree top adventure based in the heart of Delamere Forest, nr Northwich. Tree-top high wires, tricky crossings and wind-in-your-face zip wires - the Go Ape experience gets people out of their comfort zones and above all (no pun intended), choose to support the NWAA!

Staff at Clitheroe cafe limber up in memory of a much loved husband and father Brian Crabtree. Brian was a keen motorbiker and greatly respected the work of the North West Air Ambulance charity. The whole cafe team, friends and family took part in a 10k fun run and raised an amazing £3275 for Brian's favourite charity.
St Stephen's Men Group visit our crew at Barton
St Stephen's mens group from Tyldesley visited our crew at Barton aerodrome to learn how their support really does make a difference to the lives of people in the North West. The church group has nominated NWAA as the beneficiary of this year's fundraising and kindly presented us with a cheque for £800.
'Sabden Live' helps to save lives
Local musicians performed to crowds at the Pendle Witch Inn, Sabden to raise awareness and funds for our charity. The event was a great success and organisers proudly presented our crew with a wonderful cheque for £2100. We are delighted to have been chosen as the beneficiary of Sabden Live 2012 event also.
Community Matters scheme benefits NWAA
Customers at Waitrose in Spinningfields, Manchester showed their support by nominating us as the beneficiary of the monthly 'Community Matters' donation of £250.
Fundraising ventures for the New Venue Club

As a group who travel a lot, the ERF Caravan Club recognise the value of the North West Air Ambulance and the service they provide. This year they decided to raise funds to show their appreciation for the work our crew do around the region and are pictured presenting a cheque for £400. The club choose a different charity each year to benefit from their fundraising and the NWAA were chosen, as "You never know when we may need your help!"
In memory of Ada
As a keen supporter of the NWAA, the late Ada Gronwald's family and friends at the Black Bull pub organised a Darts & Dominoes Evening on 3rd March to raise funds for her favourite charity to be donated in her memory, and raised a wonderful £850.00!
The family would like to thank Blackburn Rovers for donating memorabilia and footballer David Dunn for attending on the evening, the England Darts team for donating a Phil Taylor Darts Shirt and many friends who donated unwanted gifts for raffle prizes. Special thanks are extended to Andy Lees, Tom Brown and Maggie Quinn for donating the trophies.

Solid supporters!
The North West Concrete Society organised an annual dinner dance at the Hilton Hotel in Blackpool on 25 March and chose the North West Air Ambulance to benefit from the proceeds. The group were invited to our Barton airbase to meet the crew and take a look around the helicopter and are pictured above with pilot Marc Rowley (left) and paramedic David Fletcher. Gt Harwood Fire Station share the spoils...
A big thank you to the staff at Great Harwood Fire Station who raised £964.23 and chose to share the funds between the Fire Fighters Charity and the North West Air Ambulance Charity. They invited Regional Fundraiser Alison Whittaker-Stewart (not pictured) along to accept the cheque for £464.23. The monies were raised from a fire station open day and sponsored fire engine pull.

Friends do Mark's memory proud
A big hearted group from Tyldesley have been busy raising money for the North West Air Ambulance Charity in memory of Mark Barker who passed away from pneumonia in January. Mark aged just 37, was once a patient of a neighbouring air ambulance and as such was an avid supporter of the life-saving services provided by these vital charities. Mark's family requested money in lieu of donations at his funeral and since then his mum and friends have also organised a musical evening at Tyldesley Rugby Club, where they received a tremendous amount of support from local businesses who donated over 130 raffle prizes.
Hats off to the Bourne Poacher!
This week we raised our hats to the kind owners of the Bourne Poacher in Thornton Cleveley's. Derek and Angie invited NWAA's chief executive Lynda Brislin and Head of Development Mark Carroll along to one of their fantastic country and western afternoons and took the opportunity to present Mark with a cheque for a whooping £20,000! Mark said,"It was a great afternoon, and to receive such an amount towards the £4 million we need each year was just amazing, we really can't thank everyone enough for their support."
Mayor of Hyndburn visits Barton
On Thursday 31st
March, our Barton aircrew received a visit from the Mayor and Mayoress of Hyndburn (Councillor Malcolm Pritchard and his wife Irene). The North West Air Ambulance Charity are one of the Mayoral Charity Committee's charity of the year and they have so far raised £13,000 on our behalf.

The committe have hosted a series of events to help raise the funds and the final event will be "Brass Night at the Proms with Foden's Band on Saturday 16th April 2011."
On Wednesday 30th March, NWAA volunteer Tony Bent was invited to the Hindley Ladies' Circle to talk about the work of the North West Air Ambulance Charity.
Tony explained to a packed audience that the service was dependent on voluntary donations, covers an area of 5,500 square miles, taking in Lancashire, Greater Manchester, Merseyside, Cumbria and Cheshire. There are two helicopters, one based at Blackpool, the other at Manchester City Airport, (aka Barton Aerodrome). These aircraft are able to reach even the most distant locations in 18 minutes, allowing the expert medical crew to make the most of 'The Golden Hour.' The annual cost is £4million.
At the end of the Presentation, Mrs. Anne Hodgkinson made donations from the group totalling £95.
Mrs. Margaret Valentine, Lady Captain of the Hindley Hall Golf Club also attended the meeting and later presented a cheque for £236.00 which was raised by the Ladies' Golf section.
Tony expressed grateful appreciation for the wonderful response from the Ladies' Circle and from the ladies at the Golf Club.

M&S raise £1200 for air ambulance
Thank you to the staff of Marks & Spencer, Barrow, these fantastic fundraising ladies raised £1200.35 for the North West Air Ambulance. The group are pictured at our Blackpool airbase making the cheque presentation to paramedic Wayne Marrum and pilot Neil Airey.

Many Happy Returns Chris!
When Chris Dewhurst turned 50, friends and family saw this not just an an opportunity to celebrate, but also one to raise funds for charity!
So on Saturday 8th January 2011, Chris' family and friends got together to hold him a special 50th birthday party at Ferrari's Country Club in Thornley. Instead of presents Chris asked for donations to be made to the North West Air Ambulance Charity and family, friends and business colleagues raised a fantastic £905.00! Chris chose to support the North West Air Ambulance charity "as you never know when you may need their help". Thanks Chris and Happy 50th!

The committee members of Edgworth Real Ale Festival (ERAF) attended Barton Airbase to handover a cheque for £6,000 this month from the proceeds of their 2010 festival!
Their annual festival raised a grand total of £12,000 for charity, with the additional funds being donation to Bolton Mountain Rescue Team.
This year's ERAF 2011 will be taking place from the 23rd – 25th September at the Barlow Institute in Edgworth. Once again, all the fun will have a serious agenda as they try to raise as much money as possible for charity. What a coincidence!
Shirley & Brian Walton recently celebrated their Golden Wedding Anniversay by inviting their friends and family to a local restaurant.
But instead of receiving presents the generous couple asked for donations to the North West Air Ambulance and received a total of £545! Shirley & Brian along with friend Janet Burrows, were invited to come along to the airbase to meet the crew. Quite by coincidence, the following day Shirley & Brian learned that one of their friends, who was blind, had suffered an accident two days before whilst walking with a guide in Lyme Park and the NWAA had flown to the rescue. Guitar club hits the right note..
The South Lakes Guitar Club, Kendal recently held a fundraising evening on behalf of the NWAA and raised £750.00!.
The concert, on October 24th was very well supported with a sell out audience. Club members played from 7.00pm-10.30pm as groups, duo's and solo performances, all of which was put together specifically for the event. Everyone (audience and performers) had a GREAT night with thirteen acts playing a wide variety of misic from instrumental to vocal, from classical to rock, all kept smoothly running by our compere for the evening. It was all good fun. The raffle prizes were kindly donated by local businesses and some club members who were very generous and provided some super prizes.
Village Club go the distance
On the 21st August a group of members from Bare Village Club completed a “cross bay walk” in aid of the North West Air Ambulance.
Organised by club President George Jennings they walked between Hest Bank and Silverdale and raised £607.50 for the NWAA.
Accepting the cheque on behalf of the North West Air Ambulance, Frank Wood commented that the North West Air Ambulance costs nearly £4 million per year to run yet does not receive any central government or lottery funding.

Motor club raise £1,200...
A big thank you to the Knutsford & District motor club who handed over a cheque for £1,200 on Saturday.
Chief executive Lynda Brislin went along to take a look at some of the cars belonging to the club and to say a big thank you on behalf of the air ambulance.
"Three Peaks Challenge" raises over £2,000
Three friends have recently completed the gruelling 'Three Peaks Challenge' in order to raise funds for the North West Air Ambulance.
The famous challenge involves climbing the three highest mountains in the UK in under 24 hours. We would like to take this opportunity to thank Sean, John and Ben (pictured above) for their fantastic fundraising efforts.
Hardware shop fundraise during fashion week
To mark the end of Ulverston Fashion Week Smith & Harrison's decided to follow the designer boutiques of the town and put live models in the shop window to market their goods. However, their live model didn't quite conform to fashion expectations.
Garry Gifford posed in the ironmongers shop window to help raise funds (and few eyebrows) to officially mark the end of this prestigious event. We would like to thank all involved at Smith & Harrison's for their fundraising ingenuity.
Beaverbrooks staff support local charity
Staff at Beaverbrooks have made a special contribution to charity by donating £200 to North West Air Ambulance. The donation forms part of a nationwide initiative which has seen the Company giving each of its people £50 to donate to a charity of their choice.
Each of Beaverbrooks’ 65 stores and Head Office Departments were given the opportunity to nominate a charity they felt particularly passionate about to receive a collective donation. And with over 700 people, Beaverbrooks is sure to make a significant difference to charities throughout the UK.
David Carleton, Manager of the Marketing Department at Beaverbrooks Head Office says “The team spent a lot of time discussing which charities they feel passionate about and which should receive the donation, and North West Air Ambulance was our chosen charity. At Beaverbrooks we’re always looking for ways to enrich people’s lives and this doesn’t stop at our staff and customers. We recognise the importance of helping and supporting our local community and hope this donation will go some way to making a difference to this well deserving charity.”
Freemasons make £12,000 donation
East and West Lancashire and Cheshire Freemasons visited Barton Airport to present
North-West Air Ambulance with a cheque for £12000 from their National Charity. This generous donation is part of over £ 1/2 M donated by the Charity to air ambulances during the past three years.
Speaking about the donation Derek Thornhill, Assistant Provincial Grand Master from East Lancashire said: “Air Ambulances play an important role in ensuring people get the medical help they need as quickly as possible. For those in life threatening situations this can dramatically improve their chance of survival. East Lancashire Masons and the Freemasons’ Grand Charity are delighted to once again be supporting North West Air Ambulance and contributing to the continued provision of this excellent service”
In response Lynda Brislin, charity chief executive of the North West Air Ambulance Service said: “Without the support of Freemasons and similar donors we just would not be flying the way we do. I cannot praise the Freemasons enough for this generous support. Hardly a week goes by without a cheque landing on my desk from one of the Lodges in the North West and then there is this magnificent donation. It is donations like this that keeps us flying and saving lives”.
Knutsford District Motor Club present cheque
Members of the Knutsford District Motor Club presented a cheque to North West Air Ambulance charity Chief Executive Lynda Brislin recently
for £1500.
The funds were raised at their recent "Tour of Cheshire" car rally which took place over the summer.

Inner Wheel present cheque
Members of the Inner Wheel Club of Tottington presented a cheque to the North West Air Ambulance for £1200 raised at various fundraising events throughout the year.
Manheim Auctions adopt charity
Manheim Auctions have adopted North West Air Ambulance as their chosen charity for the next twelve months. The auctioneers based in Haydock, Lancashire intend to hold fundraising events throughout the year to raise funds for the charity.

Cake Sale Raises Funds
Euxton House employees were able to indulge their collective sweet tooth at the recent charity sale of home made cakes in aid of the North West Air Ambulance. A regular team of cake bakers (they have these sales a couple of times a year) produced mouthwatering selections and the queues snaked all the way round the reception area, so much so that everything was completely sold out within half an hour.
There were dozens of different cakes on offer and would have rivalled those made by Delia! A cheque for £260 was later presented to the fundraising representatives of the NWAA.
Toyota UK make charitable donation
The Manging Director of Toyota UK recently presented North West Air Ambulance representative Dave Cotson with £2000 from their charitable trust.
We would like to thank all the personnel at Toyota UK for choosing us to receive this fantastic donation.
Tuc Tuc journey around Britian
Driving from John O'Groats to Lands End is a mammoth task for even the experienced of drivers but imagine making that journey in a tuc-tuc. The three wheeled vehicle, popular in South East Asia, has a top speed of 33mph and can carry up to three people.
Stephen Lord, pictured below, made the 1700 mile trip and visited 25 air ambulance bases on the journey. Stephen raised £2300 for the North West Air Ambulance and presented Charity Chief Executive Lynda Brislin with the cheque.
We would like to say a big thank you to Stephen for his huge effort raising these funds on this arduous task.
Carnival Queen's hold fundraising activities
Two carnival queens have raised £600 for the North West Air Ambulance.
The money was raised through a variety of fundraising activities including a fun night, tombola stalls and a sponsored haircut.
The two carnival queens, Emma Alexander and Amelia Morley, are pictured handing a cheque to Chris Veevers and Dave Cotson from the North West Air Ambulance.
90th Birthday Celebration for NWAA supporter
North West Air Ambulance supporter Nellie Edwards recently celebrated her 90th birthday and instead of asking for presents she requested guests make a donation to the North West Air Ambulance.
Nellie, from Congleton, Cheshire, managed to raise in excess of £350.00 for the North West Air Ambulance and we would like to take this opportunity to thank Nellie and all her family and friends who donated so generously.
50th Birthday collection raises charitable funds!
Jeremy Makinson, recently celebrated his 50th birthday and asked for guests to make donations to the North West Air Ambulance instead of purchasing gifts.
Jeremy received a whopping £735 in gifts and we would like to thank Jeremy and all his friends and family for making such generous donations to the North West Air Ambulance

Masons present BBQ funds
The members of Longton Masonic Lodge No 6237 raised £2500 at their summer BBQ and presented the cheque to NWAA Charity Chief Executive Lynda Brislin at a recent gathering.
We would like to thank all the members of Longton Masonic Lodge along with all those who attended their summer BBQ and helped raise this money.
Holgate caravan park
The staff and holiday makers at Holgate holiday park in Lancaster have been working hard over the Summer to raise £6500 for the North West Air Ambulance.
Throughout the season numerous charitable events and family fun days have been held with all the proceeds being donated to the regions dedicated helicopter emergency medical service.
We would like to thank all the staff and patrons of Holgates caravan park for all their hard work in raising this staggering amount.
Rochdale classic bike show
North West Air Ambulance fundraiser Freda Whittle recently held a stall at the Rochdale Classic bike show to raise funds for the charity.
Holding a stall selling various bric-a-brac items and organising a tombola with numerous stuffed monkey bears which had been donated by a friend.
We would like to take this opportunity to thank Freda for her fundraising efforts along with everybody who donated goods and all those who attended the show and helped raise nearly £200 for our life saving charity.
